2nd Annual "Halloween 
Fire Prevention Festival"

Portland, ME - The Second Annual “Halloween Fire Prevention Festival” is Saturday, October 27 from 11:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. at Longfellow Park, with American Red Cross “Halloween Blood Drive” from 11:00 - 4:00 p.m. at Portland Community Squash, 66 Noyes Street co-hosted by the University Neighborhood Organization, Portland Fire Fighters Local 740, Portland Fire Department, Phi Mu Delta Fraternity & Kappa Delta Phi NAS Sorority at USM. 

Keith Gautreau, Chief, Portland Fire Dept.,  says, “This is a great event held in one of our densely populated neighborhoods that allows us to educate the public on fire safety and prevention.  I see this as an opportunity for collaboration with other agencies to interact with the community and focus on public safety and risk reduction.”

Portland Community Squash


The University Neighborhood Organization (UNO) is located in the heart of Portland's rich academic area commonly referred to as the “Education District". The "Education District" is home to four Universities, The University of New England, University of Southern Maine, University of Maine Law School, Maine Medical Center's Tufts University School of Medicine, Muskie School of Public Service, and several private and public schools including Levey Day School near USM and Deering High School, Lincoln Middle School, Longfellow Elementary School, The Children's Center, Catherine McAuley High School all located on Steven’s Avenue down the road from the University of New England.

The University Neighborhood Organization was founded in 2006 to bridge the Universities together with the surrounding neighborhoods to preserve and further our neighborhood quality of life and offer forums to enrich our quest for life long learning opportunities.

The University Neighborhood Organization works closely with the University of Southern Maine (USM), University of Maine Law School, University of New England (UNE) and residents.
