Western Promenade- Valley Street Switchback Improvements

Switchback

This month we expect to wrap up work on trail improvements to the lower asphalt path system in the Western Promenade. The area in focus is a lower portion of the asphalt trail path that connects the Gilman Street Neighborhood and service areas of Maine Medical to the Valley Street / St. Johns street neighborhood. Also included in the improvements are drainage and erosion repair work along an informal woods trail, and eliminating a safety concern over cinder blocks being used as steps at the valley street entrance. This work is being done with funding provided by Maine Medical to improve circulation routes that might be utilized more frequently by people coming through the park from the new parking garage along St. John’s street.  Remaining work is installing a protective timber guard rail at certain points of the paved path to make snow removal and path maintenance more effective and safer for Parks staff.
